The goal of this research project is to quantify the value and extent of the hydrological services provided by La Amistad, bi-national site shared by Costa Rica and Panama, to local communities and economic activities present in the region. Research will combine hydrological modeling with applied micro-econometric techniques to value complex ecosystem services such as streamflow augmentation benefits for hydroelectric or other productive uses and drought mitigation provided by tropical forested watersheds to agrarian communities.
