This publication on Water and Indigenous Peoples advocates a revision of international development efforts to fully embrace indigenous people's knowledge, values, land tenure, customary management, social arrangements and rights pertaining to water. Contributions cover a wide array of approaches and issues, ranging from "worldviews" to "rights based struggles".
The book's second section entitled "Worldviews and Water Management" presents a series of case studies that contrasts sharply with the conventional discourse offered by international organizations, governments and the private sector. For indigenous peoples, the wise management of water is not just an economic matter, but one that is first and foremost spiritual and social.
